Staged (Music from the TV Series)

Very happy to say that my music from BBC 1 comedy Staged (staring David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Samuel L Jackson, Judy Dench) is now available to stream/download. The series was written, directed and also staring the brilliant Simon Evans and is available to watch in the UK on BBC iPlayer here. The series will be...

BBC One comedy STAGED coming to screens in June starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen

Very happy to announce I've been composing music for a brilliant new six part comedy called "Staged" staring David Tennant, Michael Sheen (and some special guests yet to be announced). Directed by Simon Evans - Simon and I were due to be opening a theatre production in Chichester just before lockdown - so he wrote this rather wonderful comedy (about a play cancelled by Covid-19) when it was cancelled (all coming together from conception to near completion in just over a month). The score is written for bass clarinet ensemble and Calor Gas bottle (one of my new favourite percussion......

BBC “Don’t Quit” narrated by Idris Elba

I was honoured to be asked to compose the music for this beautiful 90 second film made by the BBC in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Collaborating completely remotely – the edit, mix, grade and creative process was all done on Zoom meetings (with Idris’ voiceover being recorded on an iPhone). The score was recorded...

“The Windermere Children” on AIR Studios Playlist

AIR studios have put together a Spotify playlist of some of their favourite tracks recorded there over the years (David Bowie, Thom York, Billie Eilish, Hans Zimmer) and I jumped out of my skin when I saw they’d included one of my tracks from “The Windermere Children” on there called “Thoughts of Home”. Thanks so...

Hollow in a World Too Full / Seven Point Zero (redux)

I've been lucky to have worked with the brilliant 2Faced Dance company for almost ten years; last month they embarked on a worldwide tour of Everything (But The Girl) - a triple bill of pieces of which I scored two of - Hollow in a World Too Full and Seven Point Zero. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the tour has been postponed and the dance company left unable to tour or earn an income. They work with a number of schools and community classes nationally all of which have had to be cancelled for the foreseeable future. In light of this......

“A Life Lived” from The Windermere Children (live piano version)

I've recently recorded this live piano version of "A Life Lived" from The Windermere Children in my studio. Whilst the production was still filming, I was so moved after reading the script for the first time - so sat at the piano and tried to put down some of the emotions that came out; thinking about how those children must have felt arriving in Windermere after being freed from Auschwitz and Theresienstadt weeks before. It's not often that a script can move you to tears like that! A shortened version appears in the end credits of the film, but the......

“The Windermere Children” broadcast on BBC Two (UK) & ZDF (Germany)

Very happy that The Windermere Children is being broadcast today on BBC Two (UK) and ZDF (Germany) on Holocaust Memorial Day – the first drama of it’s kind to be broadcast simultaneously like this in the UK and Germany. It was hugely special composing the music for this film (I’ve written in other posts about...
