Ochi Cherneye (BBC World Cup 2018)

A collaboration with the incredible Sir John Tomlinson on a new song for the BBC World Cup 2018 coverage. Based on the traditional Russian folk song “Ochi Chernye”, recorded at Abbey Road Studio 1 with the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

The full, 5 minute version of the song can be heard in the Albums section of the website or on the link below.

The song is based on a Russian poem, translated as “Dark Eyes”

A rough translation of the lyrics…

Dark eyes, burning eyes
Passionate and splendid eyes
How I love you, How I fear you
Truly, I saw you at not a good hour

Dark eyes, flaming eyes
They implore me into faraway lands
Where love reigns, where peace reigns
Where there is no suffering, where war is forbidden

Conducted by by Andy Brown, Engineered by Andrew Dudman at Abbey Rd Studio 1. Mixed by Andrew Dudman and Alex Baranowski.

Created by Xander Hart and Edward Usher at BBC Creative, directed by Nicos Livesey.
